Place the tofu between sheets of paper towels. Using your hands press the tofu to remove excess moisture then stand for 10 minutes to dry out. Meanwhile, continue to the next step.
Place the soy sauce, half the garlic, half the sesame oil, and vegetable oil in a large bowl and whisk to combine.
Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. Add to the marinade and gently turn to coat. Let stand for 5 minutes, to marinate, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, continue to the next step.
Insert the oven rack into position 3 Down. Set the oven to Air Fry, Super Convection, 425°F, for 15 minutes and press Start to preheat. Meanwhile, continue to the next step.
Drain the tofu, discard the marinade. Place the air fry basket over the roasting pan to catch any drips. Arrange the tofu in a single layer, evenly spaced apart in the basket.
Once preheated, place the roasting pan on the rack to catch any drips during cooking and the basket into position 1 and air fry for 15 minutes. When the oven signals, shake the basket and continue cooking.
The tofu should be golden brown. If not, press A Bit More.
Place a small saucepan over high heat and add the remaining 1 tablespoon sesame oil. When the oil just begins to smoke, add the onions and chili and cook stirring, for 2 minutes, or until starting to brown. Add the remaining garlic, salt, pepper and sesame seeds and cook for 1 minute, or until fragrant. Transfer to a large heatproof bowl. Add the tofu to the chili mixture and stir.
Plate up the tofu with the hot sesame oil for that ‘oh-wow’ flavor hit.
